Why Was My Website Blocked?
RCS uses Securly to filter web content and keep students safe online. Websites can be blocked for several reasons, including categories like games, social media, adult content, or anonymous proxies. Sometimes, legitimate educational sites get caught by the filter — and that's okay! There's a process to request access.
How the Unblock Request Process Works
- When you visit a blocked website, Securly will show a "Request to Access" page.
- Click the "Request Access" button on that page. This automatically sends a request to IT with your name, email, and the website URL.
- IT reviews all unblock requests and decides whether the site is appropriate for school use.
- You'll typically hear back within 1–2 school days.
What Types of Sites Can Be Unblocked?
Usually approved:
- Educational resources (dictionary sites, research databases, Google Sites for class projects)
- Sites your teacher specifically needs for a lesson or assignment
- News and reference sites
Usually NOT approved:
- Gaming sites (crazygames.com, etc.)
- Social media (unless specifically required for class)
- Streaming/movie sites (Netflix, 123Movies, etc.)
- Proxy or VPN sites
What Should I Do If I Need a Site for Class?
The fastest way to get a site unblocked is to tell your teacher first. Teachers can submit unblock requests on your behalf, and teacher requests are prioritized. If your teacher confirms the site is needed for an assignment, IT will review it faster.
