Campus Security Cameras: Overview and Who Manages the System

Redlands Christian School operates a network of security cameras across all campuses to support the safety of students, staff, and facilities. This article explains what the camera system covers and who is responsible for it.

Who Manages the Camera System?

The RCS security camera system is managed by the IT Department. IT is responsible for:

• Installing and maintaining all campus cameras
• Monitoring system health and connectivity
• Responding to reports of offline or malfunctioning cameras
• Providing recorded footage to authorized administrators upon request

For any camera-related issue or footage request, IT is your first point of contact.

What Areas Are Covered?

Cameras are installed across the RCS campus including:

• Building entrances and exits
• Parking lots and exterior grounds
• Common areas, hallways, and cafeteria spaces
• Athletic fields (select locations, including the baseball field)
• Front office and lobby areas

Cameras are not installed inside individual classrooms, restrooms, or private offices.

How Long Is Footage Retained?

Camera footage is stored on a rolling basis. Standard retention is 30 days, after which older footage is automatically overwritten. If you need footage from a specific incident, submit your request as soon as possible to ensure it hasn't been overwritten.

Who Can View Camera Footage?

Access to live or recorded camera footage is restricted to:

• IT staff (system management and technical support)
• Campus administrators and principals (for incident investigations)
• Law enforcement (with proper legal request)

General staff do not have direct access to the camera system. All footage requests must go through IT and be authorized by an administrator.
