If your Promethean panel is lagging, taking a long time to load apps, or is unresponsive to touch, these steps will help restore normal performance.
Step 1: Restart the Panel
This is the most effective fix and the one most often skipped. Panels accumulate memory usage over time and benefit from a fresh start.
- Hold the power button for 3–5 seconds.
- Select Restart (not Sleep or Shut Down).
- Wait the full 1–2 minutes for the panel to reboot completely.
If your panel is never restarted overnight, consider making a habit of restarting it at the end of each school day.
Step 2: Close Background Apps
- Tap the Recent Apps button (square icon on the navigation bar).
- Swipe away or close all apps that you're not actively using.
- In particular, close any open browser tabs with video content, Google Meet sessions, or YouTube.
Step 3: Clear Chrome Cache
A bloated cache can slow down the panel's browser significantly.
- Open Chrome on the panel.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete.
- Select All time and check Cached images and files.
- Click Clear data.
Step 4: Check for System Updates
Outdated firmware can cause performance issues. Check for available updates:
- Go to Settings > About > System Update (or similar, depending on panel model).
- If an update is available, install it. Updates often include performance fixes.
- Contact IT if updates require admin credentials to install.
Step 5: Reduce What's Running During Lessons
- Avoid having multiple browser tabs with video open simultaneously.
- Use lower resolution streams when possible (720p instead of 4K) — the panel display doesn't benefit from 4K but the processing load is significant.
- If using screen mirroring (Instashare, Cast), keep the source device close and on the same network for smoother performance.
Hardware Limitation Note
Older Promethean panels (pre-2022) have more limited processing power. If your panel is consistently slow despite these steps, it may be a hardware limitation. Contact IT to assess whether the panel qualifies for an upgrade.
