Ever wonder why Netflix works fine at home but refuses to load on your school Chromebook? That's not a bug. That's Securly doing exactly what it's supposed to do. This week the IT team updated Securly's content filtering rules. Securly is the web filtering system that runs on every school-managed Chromebook and classroom device. The changes address streaming video services during school hours - so if you have seen students trying to stream Netflix, Disney+, or Prime Video during class time, those requests are now handled more consistently across all grade levels and campuses. We also published a new Help Center article this week: 'Why Prime Video, Netflix, or Disney+ Won't Play on Your Chromebook or Classroom Panel.' It explains what Securly is, why certain sites get filtered, and what to do if you are a staff member who needs to use a streaming service for a legitimate classroom purpose. If a site won't load on your school Chromebook or classroom panel, open a Zendesk ticket before assuming it is broken. Securly filtering and actual site outages look identical from the outside - IT can tell you which one you have hit in about 2 minutes. Bonus: if it is a Securly block, a ticket is exactly how you get a staff exception approved.
