The Loaner Ledger: Every Eagle Gets a Device on Day 1
It is August 2nd. Teacher In-Service starts Tuesday. Three new staff members begin Monday. And somewhere in the Upper School, a teacher needed an accurate count of every loaner Chromebook before students arrive.
That ticket landed in the queue this week — "Loaner Chromebooks - list and missing ones" — and it quietly tells the whole back-to-school story. Devices get shuffled over the summer. Loaners end up in the wrong carts. Labels fade. Then August arrives and everyone needs a count fast.
The IT team cleared 26 of 27 tickets this week. New hires are being set up with accounts and devices. BenQ NFC cards are being programmed. Phone systems are being updated for staff in new roles. A new Help Center guide on Securly Classroom just dropped in time for In-Service. The building is waking up and IT is running a step ahead of it.
Note: Microsoft is reporting service degradation across Exchange Online, Teams, and portions of the M365 suite this weekend. If email feels slow or Teams is misbehaving, that is the cause - not your device. The IT team is monitoring. Check status.office365.com for live updates. No action needed from your end.
If you will be checking out a loaner Chromebook this fall, look for the asset tag on the back. That number is what IT needs if something goes wrong. Write it down.
"Good IT is not about the tools. It is about the habits."

Byte Tip
Picking up a loaner Chromebook this fall? Note the asset number on the sticker before you take it home - that is the number IT needs if the device has issues. Bonus tip: check the battery level before class. A Chromebook at 3% is just an expensive clipboard. Report any problems through ITHelp.RedlandsChristian.org and include the asset number and what happened.
