// proactive av check before fall term.
Your Classroom Tech Has Opinions (And We're Listening)
Smart panels and projectors ship with power settings tuned for conference rooms that run two hours a day -- not classrooms running back-to-back periods from first bell to dismissal. That mismatch is the root cause of most of the AV complaints IT sees in the first two weeks of school. The usual suspects: panels dropping to sleep between periods and refusing to wake up gracefully, inputs randomly switching when a second device connects, and displays going dark mid-lesson because the auto-shutoff timer decided 20 minutes of no remote button press means nobody is home. Nearly all of these trace to factory defaults that nobody touched over the summer. Here is what your IT team is doing before Day 1: walking every AV-equipped room across all three campuses, verifying power management is set for classroom use (not energy-saver mode), confirming HDMI and USB-C inputs are correctly mapped and labeled, and flagging any unit that needs a firmware update pushed. A panel running summer-old firmware can behave differently once students start connecting devices at full speed. On the new hardware side, the BenQ interactive panel slated for the US Art Room is in the demo pipeline. Steve will be running a configuration walkthrough with the room's teachers before it goes live -- the teacher-facing toolbar is genuinely useful once it is set up correctly, and we want faculty comfortable with it before students arrive. If your room has a projector or display that has been sitting dark since June, shoot a ticket to ithelp@redlandschristian.org. A five-minute settings check now is a much better morning than a call to the help desk at 7:55 AM on the first day.

“A five-minute settings check now beats a panicked call at 7:55 AM on the first day of school.”
