If your Chromebook keeps dropping Wi-Fi or can't connect to the campus network, try these steps.
Quick Fixes
- Restart your Chromebook. Click the time in the bottom-right > tap the power icon > Restart (not just close the lid).
-
Forget and rejoin the network:
- Click the time > click the Wi-Fi icon > click the gear icon next to your network.
- Click Forget.
- Then reconnect by selecting the network again and entering the password if prompted.
- Check if other devices can connect. If your phone or another Chromebook in the same room has internet, the issue is device-specific. If nothing has internet, report a campus network issue to IT.
Run Chrome OS Network Diagnostics
- Open Settings > About ChromeOS.
- Click Diagnostics.
- Run the Network test. This will check your Wi-Fi connection, signal strength, and internet connectivity.
- If the test fails, note the error and include it in your IT ticket.
Recurring Disconnections
If the same Chromebook keeps losing Wi-Fi repeatedly (daily or multiple times per day):
- This may indicate a hardware issue with the Wi-Fi antenna inside the Chromebook.
- Submit a ticket to itsupport@redlandschristian.org and include:
- The asset tag number (sticker on the bottom of the Chromebook)
- The student's name
- How often it disconnects
- Which building/room it happens in most
IT may swap the device or send it out for repair.
