Common Errors and Fixes
"Category dropdown is empty or grayed out"
This usually means assignment categories haven't been set up for your class. Here's how to check:
- Go to Gradebook Settings (gear icon or Settings link)
- Look for "Categories" or "Grading Categories"
- Make sure Formative and Summative categories exist with correct weights
- If categories are missing, you may need to contact your department head or Betty Crocker (BCrocker@redlandschristian.org) to set them up for your course
"Can't enter formative or summative"
This typically happens with elective or special classes (like Ceramics, Art, PE) that were set up with a different grading structure. If you're seeing this:
- Check if your class uses a Pass/Fail or Standards-Based grading setup instead of traditional categories
- If the grading setup needs to be changed, contact Betty Crocker (BCrocker@redlandschristian.org) — this requires admin-level access in FACTS
"Student not showing in gradebook"
- Make sure the student is enrolled in your section (not just the course)
- Check if the student was recently transferred — it can take up to 24 hours for roster changes to sync
- Try refreshing the page or logging out and back in
"Assignment not saving" or page freezing
- Try a different browser (Chrome recommended)
- Clear your browser cache
- Make sure all required fields are filled in before saving
- Check your internet connection
Elective Classes: What's Different?
Some elective classes (Ceramics, Art, Music, etc.) may have a different grading configuration than standard academic courses. This can cause:
- Missing or different category options
- Different point scales or rubric formats
- Fewer gradebook columns
If your elective class isn't set up the way you need, email BCrocker@redlandschristian.org (Betty Crocker) with your class name and section, and describe what's missing.
