What Is Securly Classroom?
Securly Classroom is a teacher-facing classroom management tool built into the Securly suite that RCS uses for student web filtering. It lets you monitor and guide student device activity in real time during class — without leaving your desk or interrupting instruction.
Securly Classroom works on any teacher device (Mac, Windows, Chromebook) and manages student Chromebooks and school-issued devices connected to the same network.
Who Has Access?
Securly Classroom is available to teachers who participated in the campus pilot program. Your school principal has the list of pilot participants. If you believe you should have access and cannot log in, contact IT at ithelp@redlandschristian.org.
How to Log In
- Go to teacher.securly.com
- Sign in with your RCS Google account (your @acarcs.org address)
- Select your class or create a session
Key Features
Screen View
See live thumbnail previews of every student's active browser tab. Click any thumbnail to view that student's screen full-size. This lets you quickly spot off-task browsing without walking the room.
Tab Lock
Lock all student browsers to a single URL during a test, video, or direct instruction moment. Students will see a message that their browsing is restricted by their teacher. The lock releases when you end it.
Push a Link
Send a URL to all students in your class at once. The link opens automatically in their browser — great for quickly distributing a Google Form, quiz link, or resource without posting it to Classroom and waiting for students to find it.
Attention Check
Send a quiet prompt to a specific student's screen asking them to refocus. The student sees the message privately and can acknowledge it. No classroom interruption needed.
Pause Internet
Temporarily block all web browsing for the class. Useful during demonstrations or when you need full student attention. All tabs remain open — browsing just pauses.
Starting a Class Session
- Log in at teacher.securly.com
- Click New Session and name your class (e.g. "Period 3 English")
- Students are detected automatically when their Chromebook is on the same campus network
- Your class dashboard shows student thumbnails within 1-2 minutes
- Use the toolbar at the top to push links, lock tabs, or send attention checks
- Click End Session when class is dismissed
Frequently Asked Questions
Do students know I can see their screens?
Yes. Securly Classroom is transparent — students are informed that teachers can monitor screens when they are signed in on a school device. This is disclosed in RCS's Acceptable Use Policy.
Does it work at home?
Securly Classroom monitoring requires students to be on the RCS campus network. The web filtering component of Securly (separate from Classroom) continues to apply on school devices at home, but the real-time screen view and tab control features are campus-only.
Can I save a class roster so I don't have to re-add students each time?
Yes. After your first session, Securly Classroom remembers the students it detected. You can save that group as a named class for quick reuse next period or next week.
What if a student's screen doesn't show up?
The student's Chromebook must be signed in with their school Google account and connected to the RCS Wi-Fi. If they are on a personal hotspot or signed in as guest, they will not appear. Have the student reconnect to RCS Wi-Fi and refresh their browser.
Something isn't working — who do I contact?
Submit a ticket at ITHelp.RedlandsChristian.org or email ithelp@redlandschristian.org with Securly Classroom in the subject line. If you are a pilot teacher looking to schedule your 20-minute training walkthrough, use the same link and mention your campus.
