Straight answers about what Securly Home does, what it doesn't do, and what to expect as an RCS parent.
Is this spying on my student?
No. Securly Home only shows you activity on your student's school-issued device. It can't see your home Wi-Fi, your student's personal phone, or anything on other family devices. And it never shares your student's activity with other parents — only you can see your own child's information.
Is the school watching my family?
No. You only see your own children's activity, nothing more. The school's own safety filter (already in place) handles things on the school's side and works the same whether or not you use Securly Home. Securly Home simply lets you see, as a parent, some of what the school can already see on the device.
What CAN I do with Securly Home?
You can…
---
See a simple list of the websites, searches, and YouTube videos your student visited on their school device
Get a weekly email summary of that activity
Get an alert if something looks like it could be bullying, self-harm, or another concern
Turn off internet on the device with one tap (dinner, bedtime, etc.)
Set quiet hours so the device goes offline on a schedule you choose
Choose to get phone alerts when something is flagged
What CAN'T I do with Securly Home?
You can't…
---
See your student's personal phone, home computer, or home Wi-Fi — only the school device is covered
See any other family's children — you only ever see your own
Change the school's own content filters — those stay under RCS's control no matter what
Adjust every setting yourself — how much you can customize depends on what RCS allows. Check back here if that changes.
Use it in place of the parental controls you may already use at home (Bark, Circle, your router's settings, etc.) — it only covers the school device
Do I have to sign up?
We strongly encourage it, but it's your choice. The school's filter on the device works the same either way. The only difference is that without signing up, you won't see your student's activity yourself.
Does this cost anything?
No. Securly Home is completely free for RCS families.
I saw something in the activity feed that worries me — who do I contact?
- A technical problem (can't log in, the app won't load, a child is missing, your email is wrong) — contact the RCS IT Help Desk (below). This is what IT can help with.
- A concern about your student (something they searched, a flagged alert, something you want to talk through) — contact your student's Dean of Students directly. IT does not handle these conversations — the Dean of Students' office is the right team for that.
I'm having trouble logging in — what do I do?
- Make sure you're using the same email address the school has on file for you — there's no password to create.
- Check your spam folder for a message from securly.com.
- Still stuck? See Securly's own guide at homesupport.securly.com (search “How to use the Securly Home app”), or contact the Help Desk below.
