Every RCS student in grades 7-12 takes a school-issued device home each day. Securly Home is a free app that lets you see what your student is doing on that device — even when they're not at school. Here's what it is and how to set it up.
Cost: Securly Home is completely free for RCS families. It's already part of the school's safety program — there's nothing to buy and nothing extra to sign up for.
What You Can Do With Securly Home
- See what your student is doing — a simple, up-to-date list of the websites, searches, and YouTube videos your student has visited on their school device.
- Get a weekly email update — a summary sent straight to your inbox, so you don't have to open the app every day.
- Get an alert if something looks concerning — Securly automatically flags searches or activity that may point to bullying, self-harm, or other worrying signs, so you can talk with your student sooner.
- Pause the internet — turn off internet access on your student's device with one tap, like during dinner or bedtime.
- Set quiet hours — schedule times (like school nights or weekends) when the device automatically goes offline.
Some settings — like changing what websites are blocked — depend on how much control RCS has decided to give parents. Our FAQ article explains what's available right now.
How to Get Set Up
- Make sure Securly's email doesn't end up in your spam folder. Add securly.com to your contacts, or check your spam folder in the coming weeks and mark any message from them as “not spam.”
- Double-check your email address with the school is up to date. Securly Home will use whatever email RCS already has on file for you — if it's changed recently, let the school office know.
- Watch for a welcome email from Securly. It will mention your student's name and include a link to download the Securly Home app (iPhone or Android) or use it on the web.
- Open the email and follow the link to sign in. There's no password to create and nothing extra to enter — Securly will recognize you by your email address. If both parents/guardians are on file with the school, you'll each get your own invitation.
Heads up: This year, Securly Home is for families of students in grades 7-12 only. 6th grade enrollment in Securly Home is expected in a future rollout, once device and policy details are finalized.
One more thing: IT can help with technical questions about Securly Home (logging in, the app itself). If something you see raises a concern about your student's behavior or wellbeing, please contact your student's Dean of Students instead — see the FAQ for more on this.
