When a student is blocked from a website or YouTube video by a GoGuardian Admin Policy that has Teacher Override enabled, teachers will see an Unblock for class prompt. Clicking the Unblock button prompts a confirmation page, allowing the teacher to confirm that they would like to unblock the content for all students in class.
Override Blocked Websites / Webpages
When a student is blocked from accessing a website, e.g. Nationalgeographic.com, YouTube.com, etc. teachers will have the option to unblock the full website.
If, instead, a student is blocked from accessing an individual webpage, e.g. nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/facts/three-toed-sloths clicking Unblock for class will open a drop-down menu with the option to Unblock website (unblock the full website), or Unblock page (unblock only this particular webpage).
Override YouTube Blocks
When a student is blocked from accessing a YouTube video by a policy that has Teacher Override enabled, teachers will see an "X number of videos blocked by Admin" message on the student's tile.
To allow the video:
- Click on the message or expand the student's screen view.
- Click the Actions drop-down menu and select Unblock Videos.
- Finally, click Unblock Video on the confirmation page to override the block, and allow access to the video.
No Override Option
If a student is blocked by a GoGuardian Admin Policy that doesn't allow Teacher Override, the Unblock for Class button will be grayed out. Hovering over the grayed out Unblock button provides a message stating that this student is being blocked by a policy that does not allow Teacher Override.
Teacher Override FAQ:
Q. Can I override something for just one student?
A. No. Currently, Teacher Override can be used to override and allow access to all students during the class session.
Q. How long is the overridden website or video allowed?
A. Teacher Override works on an individual class session basis. Once the class session ends, students will lose access to the overridden content, and will be blocked by GoGuardian Admin again.
Q. Why isn't Teacher Override working for all of my students?
A. Teacher Override is based on the filtering policy(s) applied to students. If some students in class belong to different organizational units, they may have different filtering policies applied that do not allow Teacher Override. Please contact a GoGuardian Administrator to confirm if this is intended, or for assistance.
Q. Do my Scene rules still apply if a website is overridden?
A. Yes. Teacher Override will allow access to content blocked by GoGuardian Admin policies, however, GoGuardian Teacher Scene rules are a separate filtering tool and will still apply.
